We’ve taken the Scout and Guide pledge

Melton Sports is delighted to announce it is now an approved stockist of official Scout and Guide uniform and we look forward to welcoming and serving Rainbows, Brownies, Beavers, Cubs, Guides and Scouts and their families for years to come.

A generation ago Allsports, based in the exact same premises in King Street as we are today, was your local supplier and when its owner retired he passed on the business to The Stork in the Bell Centre.

Now Harun Jussab, who ran The Stork for 30 years, is retiring himself and was determined to pass the baton back to your local independent sports shop!

We’re developing our sense of adventure, too, with a growing outdoor range which already includes Hi-Tec (boots), Camelbak and Ultimate Performance (running and day packs and bottles), Bridgedale (the UK’s Number 1 outdoor sock brand) and Silva (compasses) with more to come in 2017!

If your child is keen to join the Scout or Guide movement or you’re interested in getting involved as a leader or volunteer here is our quick guide to the different sections:-

Rainbows is for girls only aged five to seven. Meetings involve games and activities designed to encourage the girls to think individually as well as play and work together as part of a team.

Brownies is open to girls only aged seven to 10. Each Brownie belongs to a pack and within the whole group there are smaller sections called sixes. Brownie meetings are packed with challenging activities as well as fun games. Friendships are made and new interests developed. Often Brownie packs also go away on holiday or camp.

Guides is for girls aged 10 to 14. Guides are encouraged to learn new skills as well as develop current ones by earning badges, this also helps them to achieve some of their personal goals.

Beavers is open to boys and girls aged six to eight. Each beaver belongs to a Beaver Scout Colony and they have fun taking part in various indoor and outdoor activities together.

Cubs is for boys and girls aged eight to 10½. Cubs are able to try lots of different activities including exploring, playing music and a variety of sports and when they are done properly a badge can be awarded. This can be worn on the uniform. Cubs also enjoy organised trips away.

Scouts is open to boys and girls aged 10½ to 14. Participation is the focus for scouts with indoor and outdoor activities which challenge and develop their abilities both physically and creatively. The outdoor activities can be as exciting as yachting or abseiling as well as camping and cooking. There is also a strong international participation which opens up even more opportunities for Scouts.
