Calling in the experts

As well as taking our shop ‘on the road’ we like to host regular in-store events at Melton Sports with experts on hand to assist our customers.

We have welcomed physios, sports massage therapists and nutritionists as well as a martial arts school, held book signings and even a live radio sports show!

Our next two events will see us host a ‘pop up’ cricket shop and run a sports bra fitting day (10am to 2pm both days).

On Saturday, May 12 we will be joined by Mark Hudson, sales ambassador for exciting new brand SM Cricket UK which has England women’s captain Heather Knight on its books. Mark is also chairman and head coach at Market Overton CC.

Mark will be bringing a selection of equipment such as bats, pads, gloves and bags for purchase and order and will be available to advise.

He said: “One of the biggest problems I come across is with the equipment choice of young cricketers, as they often use bats that are much too heavy or of poor quality. They often wear pads which are way too big for them and they simply can’t run. It’s frustrating.

“That’s where my experience as a coach comes in as I can help parents choose the correct size for their child.”

A proportion of sales on the day will be donated to the Belvoir Cricket & Countryside Trust.

Then on Saturday, June 9 women will have the chance to get professionally fitted with a Shock Absorber sports bra.

Our expert is Julie Swayne. She started her working life at Harwayes and owned JJ’s Lingerie in the town for nearly nine years so there’s no-one better to call on.

Julie will be checking that the underband fits well, the cup size is correct and that the straps are adjusted to give a secure fit.

Getting the right fit is important for good performance – it’s estimated that 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra.

There will be a free gift for all those who attend plus £5 off each sports bra ordered and one lucky lady will receive their bra free in our raffle.

* Saskia Davies, a weekend sales assistant at Melton Sports, has been selected for both the U19 and U22 GB women’s softball teams to take part in European tournaments in Italy and Slovakia respectively this summer. A fundraising quiz will be held at Melton Royal British Legion Club on Friday, May 11 (7.30pm). Teams of four are asked to book in advance by contacting quizmaster Richard Angrave on 01664 569492 or The cost is £7.50pp to include supper and raffle prizes will also be available.
