The best sports podcasts
Sports podcasts are becoming increasingly popular so Melton Sports has ridden the airwaves and asked its customers for their favourites.
There are plenty of enlightening and entertaining shows available via iTunes, Acast, BBC Sounds or your podcast provider and they are great to listen to pre or post game, in the car, at the gym or on the run.
Flintoff, Savage and the Ping Pong Guy – Andrew Flintoff and Robbie Savage are never short of opinions and discuss topical talking points from the world of sport with The Times’ Matthew Syed acting as referee.
That Peter Crouch Podcast – Peter Crouch, Tom Fordyce and Chris Stark bring you a 12-part guide on how to be a professional footballer with insights on everything from dressing rooms, transfers, keeping on the good side of your manager and where to sit on the team bus.
Lineker & Baker: Behind Closed Doors is about life in and around the game with dressing room tales and green room stories from Gary and Danny’s time in football and broadcasting.
The Rugby Pod with Andy Goode and Big Jim Hamilton, hosted by Andy Rowe, is pub chat at its best with everything from tour stories and what really goes on behind the scenes as well as all the latest news and talking points. BBC 5 Live’s Rugby Union Weekly with Ugo Monye and Chris Jones is along similar lines while Tigers fans will want to listen to the BBC Radio Leicester Tigers Rugby Show with Martin Ballard and guests.
Fit & Fearless on BBC Radio 5 Live with Vic, Zanna and Tally – aka the #GirlGains crew – is an inspiring listen as they talk all things fitness and body confidence. It’s a great hit of positivity with lots of useful information thrown in from health hacks and the truth about carbs to discussions on everything from women’s health to gym etiquette.
If TMS is required listening for all cricket fans then Tailenders featuring Greg James, Jimmy Anderson and Felix White is the perfect side dish with its sideways look at the game.
Marathon Talk with Martin Yelling and Tom Williams really knows its stuff. Yelling is a former international athlete, coach, writer and presenter while Williams oversees parkrun’s global operations across 14 countries and 1,000-plus events. For a more irreverent view Running Commentary with stand-ups Paul Tonkinson and Rob Deering is just that as they talk about life and comedy but mainly running all while running!
BEST OF THE REST
It’s hard to knock 5 Live Boxing with Mike Costello and Steve Bunce as they discuss the big fight nights but Sky Sports’ Ringside is also worth checking out for its big name guests.
For golf The Cut, with the BBC’s Iain Carter and Andrew Cotter, offers excellent all round coverage, access and analysis while for the latest cycling news, interviews and chat Bespoke Weekly with Tom Fordyce, Rob Hayles and the team is worthy of the yellow jersey.
Beyond the Grid: The F1 Podcast brings you unique, personal conversations with the biggest names in the sport, from current superstar drivers to leading team bosses and legendary figures from history.
