Sporty gift ideas for you and yours

There’s nothing wrong with a little overindulgence at Christmas but how about a spot of sport and fitness for balance and a happy and healthier new year? Here are a few ideas to inspire you and the sporty people in your life.

Tickets – It’s hard to beat a festive football or rugby match. Leicester City host champions of Europe Liverpool on Boxing Day while Leicester Tigers are home to Exeter Chiefs on December 21 and to Bristol Bears on January 4.

Sports books – You can’t go wrong with a bestseller such as Peter Crouch’s How To Be A Footballer or critics’ choice Ben Ryan’s Sevens Heaven, the uplifting story of Fiji’s unlikely Olympic rugby success. But our pick is Running Life by Dame Kelly Holmes, an accessible guide to healthy nutritious eating, athletic workouts and mental strategies to get yourself into peak condition in 2020. A subscription to a sports magazine is a good alternative.

Memberships – A gym pass or membership maybe just what’s needed to motivate you or a loved one. Find a flexible deal that suits. Waterfield Leisure Centre has a 75-station gym, two pools and a group fitness studio but there are plenty of others out there – including new venues Melton Wellness House and Space2B Studios – offering cross-fit sessions, fitness classes and more.

Home workouts – An array of new fitness DVDs come out each Christmas and this kind of aerobic exercise, with professional instruction, fun choreography and motivating music, can be a great alternative to those who find jogging boring or a class intimidating. Resistance training is also a great way to get a full body workout and you’ll be amazed at just how many exercises you can do with just a band, Swiss ball, speed rope, pair of dumbbells and YouTube.

Games – Yes, there’s Fifa 20 but darts, pool, snooker and table tennis are the perfect indoor sports to keep all ages entertained over the festive period and we’ve got them covered.

Vouchers – A gift voucher for a new pair of trainers, boots or running shoes may be just the ticket, giving the recipient the full range to choose from and ensuring the fit is right. For someone who’s really active a voucher for a sports massage can also go down really well.

Fan wear – The Rugby World Cup may be over but there’s a full Premiership season for Tigers and the Six Nations for England to look forward to. We also stock the Rutland-Melton CiCLE Classic race jersey – and it’s in race leader’s yellow!

Baselayers – forget socks and Christmas jumpers, what you really need to keep warm this winter is a wicking baselayer. We have shorts, leggings and tops from as little as £11.99.

Tech – There is a great way to listen to music safely if you’re walking, cycling, running or going to the gym and that’s with AfterShokz open ear sports headphones. They use bone conduction technology so you can still hear the traffic. Call in for a demo and claim a free goodie bag with your purchase – you’ll be amazed!

Secret Santa – If you’re looking for a pressie or stocking filler for around a tenner we have lots of choice, everything from a pedometer, sports nutrition intro packs and licensed balls to players’ gloves, sports bottles or Boot Buddy. If you’re stuck we’ll have some ideas for you.
